We are a diverse community, rooted in faith, offering Christian hospitality, open to all, called to love as Christ loves, and to build justice and mercy through action.

The First Congregational Church of Norwalk voted to become an Open and Affirming church with a resounding 93% vote in favor. The church adopted the following Statement of Inclusiveness and Diversity:

On April 6, 2014, First Congregational Church on the Green of Norwalk evolves ourselves to be an Open and Affirming Church. In so doing we claim a long hard fought history that has found our church on the forefront of the issues of our day. As our front church doors state, “these doors are open to you” and with this statement we now add that our openness also includes people of all sexual orientations and their families. With God’s grace, we continually seek to be a congregation that offers a loving sanctuary that includes all persons regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, marital status, religious upbringing, age, mental and physical ability, racial, ethnic, or socio-economic background. We believe that this statement reflects that spirit of the teachings of Jesus, and take very seriously the commandments Jesus taught us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31. Our church truly celebrates diversity and we do believe that all people are created in the image of God. We welcome all people to share with us in the total ministry and blessings of participation in our congregation.

How to Get Involved

Farmer's Market

Our Farmer's Market grew out of a Growth & Vitality initiative in hopes of bringing fresh produce from a local farm to our community.  We are USDA  SNAP certified, accept EBT cards for the SNAP program and have a task force of volunteers who manage the market from July through October.  Our church funds the 2 for 1 program so that SNAP participants can receive twice the amount of fruits and vegetables.  We work with Country Farms II from     Northford, CT.  Our market also offers Wave Hill Breads and a fun Kids Korner for families.

Soul Cafe

The Soul Cafe...where life is served up freshly brewed!  Radical hospitality and fearless conversation, film clips, creative reflections, laid back gatherings, pub theology, singer songwriters, are just some of what the Soul Cafe is all about.

Music,Worship and Arts

God is a God of imagination and creativity.  At FCC on the Green, we try to engage one in worship and fellowship through the arts.  We have choirs for all ages, offering different styles of music, and open enrollment throughout the year.  We follow the liturgical Christian year along with worship themes that can be enhanced through music, art, writings, visuals, dance and creative expressions of our faith.  Your gifts, talents and interests are welcomed here.

Children's Faith Formation

Jesus said to his disciples, "let the little children come to me."  In the same manner, we feel blessed as a church as we watch families bring their children to our community of faith.  During the school year, children come and participate in the beginning of worship, come down for the children's message with the pastor and then leave with a team of teachers for Sunday School.  They are brought back to the Parish Hall for coffee hour to reunite with their parents or caregivers.  We also provide a nursery for babies and toddlers.  Children also have opportunities to sing in a choir and participate in family fellowship times throughout the year.

Youth Faith Formation

Our Youth, grades 7-12, meet early fall with parents and our pastor to plan activities for the year.  These plans include monthly after church pizza with the pastor, recreational outings, worship involvement, service opportunities both in house and in the community, lock-ins, crop walk, retreat weekends, and summer mission pilgrimage.  Confirmation classes are offered periodically.

Fellowship & Hospitality

We have a Fellowship team that offers radical hospitality through Coffee Hours following worship on Sundays, Soul Cafe events, community pancake breakfasts, passing out water bottles at parades, being a presence at our Pride in the Park, outside and off-site gatherings, as well as fun family nights.  If this is right up your alley, we hope you will grab an apron and join in the fun.

Service, Outreach & Justice

We are involved with a number of non profits locally and globally.  Periodically, we serve meals at the Open Door Shelter, are involved with Person to Person, sponsor a Farmer's Market four months out of the year, involved financially with the UCC Wider Church Missions.  Our Women's BETA CIRCLE has been instrumental in raising funds to assist those in need.  FCC on the Green has a long history of standing for justice and equality for all of humanity by publicly taking stands in our community.  We are not afraid to tackle tough issues that are facing our world today.

Building & Grounds

The Parish Administration Team is responsible for the upkeep of our property.  Perhaps you are a handyman or like to paint or fix things.  Maybe you are willing to help clean up flower beds or the parking lot after a harsh winter.  Volunteering your time for in house projects is most appreciated!
